How to Make Your Website Show Up in AI Answers
People used to type a question into Google and click a blue link. Now a lot of them just read the answer the AI hands them.
That answer gets pulled from websites. Maybe yours. Maybe your competitor's.
So the question is simple. When someone asks an AI for a plumber in your town, can it find you and read you clearly?
Here is how to make sure the answer is yes. No jargon.
Why this matters for a local business
AI tools do not guess. They read the web, then repeat what they find in plain words.
If your site is clear and full of real facts, you have a shot at being the answer. If your site is thin, slow, or vague, the AI skips you. It moves on to a site it can actually understand.
This is not a new game. It is the same old rule with a new judge. Be clear, be specific, be fast.
Five things that make your site easy for AI to read
None of this is fancy. It is the stuff most sites skip.
- Answer real questions in plain text. Write out the questions people ask you on the phone. Then answer them right on the page. "How much does a water heater install cost?" "Do you do emergency calls?" AI loves a clear question with a clear answer under it.
- Use structured data. This is a bit of code that spells out the facts for a machine. Your name, phone, hours, service area, reviews. It is like putting labels on every box. A good site build handles this for you.
- Name your town and your services out loud. Do not just say "we serve the local area." Say the towns. Say the jobs. Machines cannot read your mind, and neither can a new customer.
- Load fast and work on a phone. A slow site gets abandoned by people and skipped by bots. Most of your visitors are on a phone. The site has to feel good there first.
- Keep it fresh. A page that answers today's questions beats one that has not been touched in three years. You do not need to post daily. You need pages that are still true.
The trap to avoid
Do not stuff your pages with junk to trick the AI. It does not work, and it makes your site worse for the humans who matter.
You also do not need a pile of "AI SEO" tools charging you monthly. Most of that is noise. The real work is writing clear, honest pages about what you do and where you do it.

How to check where you stand
You can test this yourself in five minutes.
- Open ChatGPT or Google's AI. Ask it for a business like yours in your town.
- See who it names. Is it you? Is it a directory? Is it a competitor?
- Read your own top pages out loud. Would a stranger know exactly what you do, where, and how to reach you?
If the answers are shaky, that is your to-do list.
The short version
AI did not kill SEO. It just raised the bar on being clear.
The sites that win are the ones a machine can read and a human can trust. Real facts. Real answers. Real fast. That is the whole trick.
